Xzibit, no stranger to the filming studio thanks to MTV, has joined the cast of the upcoming X-Files movie and are already signed on for supporting roles in the flick.

One source says the rapper and the movie star (Xzibit and Peet) will play FBI agents working with Scully and Mulder, the stars of the show and the film. The plot is being kept very hush-hush, and FOX is releasing very little information on which roles the actors will play. Xzibit has played roles in films before and was set to appear in the film, Pinkville. The Pinkville project, however, has been scrapped because of the ongoing and seemingly unending writer’s strike.

Morgan Spurlock, who was first introduced to the world through his compelling documentary and went on to create a series for , is on the brink of releasing another interesting film. The , which borrows footage from more than 800 hours of film, will premiere January 21 at the .

will show Spurlock in Afghanistan and parts of the Middle East hunting one of the world’s most wanted men. So far, there’s a lot of talk, and some of it suggests the highly unlikely possibility that Spurlock actually located Bin Laden. While this is most likely just hype, this movie probably doesn’t need it. Spurlock’s previous efforts have been highly compelling, and the subject matter of this most recent film is promising.

Spurlock was also the producer behind , a documentary dealing with the topic of holiday shopping.  Jesus is currently running in limited theaters.

Sex & the City screenshot: wedding dressThe Sex and the City movie trailer has finally arrived, and it’s just as promising and exciting as fans could want. It begins with a voice-over and a wide, sweeping view of Manhattan, then quickly falls into an image free-for-all while the theme music blares invitingly. Quick screenshots flash past, showing images inside Carrie’s apartment, the four girls walking together, and a photo shoot where Carrie sports the much-touted wedding dress. As the music ends, the final scene shows a steamy kiss between Carrie and Mr. Big. All of it leads up to the promise that the movie will debut May of 2008.

Harold & Kumar Are BackThe brand spankin’ new full-length trailer for the sequel to Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle has now been released. What is particularly interesting is that the film is no longer called Harold & Kumar 2, but has been officially named . I have my doubts that this film can even come close to being as good as the first one, but the trailer looks pretty funny. and (and, yes, ) are back, and this time they are breaking out of a Cuban terrorist detainment facility. I’ll reserve my judgement for the film, but you are more than welcome to place your bets now.

No Country for Old MenAlthough there’s a large slate of movies yet to be released, the National Board of Review kicked off awards season this week with its list of honorees.  film, , walked away with NBR’s prize for Best Film along with two other categories.

The NBR is not necessarily known for predicting success.  Nevertheless, the group consisting of educators, historians and film industry professionals did select and as its winners last year.

Here’s a list of the 2007 NBR honorees.  Even if you can’t use these selections in your betting pool, you now know which films you should become familiar with:

Queen LatifahThe media is currently engaged in a fierce battle, as every single publication seems to be fighting for a single honor: they want to be one to out Queen Latifah. The rumors and gossip started naturally enough, when MediaTakeOut (an Internet site) announced they have exclusive rights to Queen’s story. The New York Post followed with a teaser that a certain ‘big Hollywood actress’ was soon going to come out of the closet and marry her girlfriend of four years.

The rumor is that Latifah and Jeanette Jenkins have been living together for some time and will soon take their love public in a big wedding. Is it true? Is Queen Latifah even homosexual? Right now, it’s all rumor and conjecture, but keep your eyes peeled for more news on Queen Latifah’s potential wedding.

Sweeney Todd PosterOver the years, many actors have come and gone. Few have had the staying power of Johnny Depp, who continues to get high-profile roles and enjoys his pick of scripts. The raven-haired thespian has showcased his acting talents over the years with an array of somewhat odd roles, preferring darker-toned movies rather than lighthearted comedy. A long-standing director-actor relationship and Depp’s penchant for the unordinary makes him perfect for Tim Burton’s , an adaptation based on the successful Broadway play.

The movie, set in London more than one hundred years ago, features Depp as none other than Todd, a deranged barber bent on murderous revenge. DreamWorks and both lent studios to create this tale of cannibalism, revenge, death, and darkness.  By the way, it’s a musical.

Sweeney Todd hits theaters December 21.

Ms. Russell:

Keri RussellI just recently watched the DVD of release of - you know, the movie you’ve been receiving all the acclaim and buzz for.  Let me first start off by saying that I thought you did an amazing job.  I was really happy to see you solidify your comeback since your heydey on Felicity.  (I’ll even forget that your critically panned exists.)

So now that I’ve gotten the compliments out of the way, I must now move on to the purpose of my note.  I read a very disturbing piece of news the other day and I’m hoping you will dispute the rumors.

Please tell me it’s not true.  Please tell me you will not be starring in a comedy with .

Granted, (Hairspray) is slated to helm .  I understand the appeal.  But I’m begging you—don’t make an about face and go backwards with your career.

If this film were on the dramatic end of the Sandler spectrum (like Reign Over Me, Spanglish or Punch-Drunk Love), you might have my support.  But playing the romantic interest in any Sandler comedy hasn’t really helped anyone.  Don’t align yourself with the of the world.  You’re better than that.  And how about ?  How did Click benefit her?  And does anyone remember role in Mr. Deeds?

You’ve already proven your comedic chops with your stint on .  Now it’s time to take advantage of the awards season hoopla.  Don’t tempt fate now by coming anywhere near a possible appearance.  Please.
